The recommended daily amount of folate for women is 400 mcg per day, but during pregnancy anywhere between 400 and 800 mcg is advised. This is to help avoid pregnancy problems such as neural tube defects and premature births. Folate is naturally found in dark leafy greens, citrus fruits, and wholegrain breads.
